The TYSC Story:
The Terryville Youth Soccer Club, Inc.
was founded in 1986 and originally started by the Terryville Lions Club,
the club has now grown into an entity of its own. The Terryville Youth
Soccer Club coordinates spring and fall youth soccer programs for both
recreational (in-town) and travel soccer teams. We have between 300 and 400
boys and girls (usually 50/50) participating in these programs each year
ranging in age from 4 to 18 years old. TYSC is a 100%
volunteer, parent funded non-profit organization (501 c (3) No.
06-1315051). We are an affiliated member of the Northwest District of the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA)
and US Youth Soccer.
THE FOLLOWING IS A
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE TYSC PROGRAMS
In-town soccer: Children ranging in age from 4 to
14 , learn the basics of soccer through instructions and play co-ed,
non-competitive games at the clubs Hancock Field on Greystone Road in Plymouth.
In-town soccer may also consist of
“intra-district” games. This means if our town or a surrounding town
does not have a sufficient amount of players to form multiple teams, towns
may coordinate to play “friendly games”. In this case, players may be asked
to travel to a neighboring field.
Travel soccer: Travel soccer is organized into the following
competitive categories of separate boys and girls teams ranging in age from
8 (U9) to 18 (U19) years old.
Travel Teams: Play competitive games and compete against club teams
in our Northwest District. This District is comprised of 29 towns extending
from Winsted to Waterbury and west to Danbury and Newtown and northwest to Falls Village. Teams are divided into 3
competition levels, A, B, and C. Teams generally start in Bracket “C” and move up as their skills and competition
level increases. These teams have
residency restrictions similar to a middle or high school sports team.
Premier State Teams: compete against other premier teams throughout Connecticut. Premier teams have three (3)
groupings. Division 1, the top division, has five (5) teams per age group
through out the state. Division 2 has eight (8) teams per age group, and
Division 3 contains the remainder of teams trying to move up into the
division 1 and 2 groupings. These teams do not have any residency restrictions.
Olympic Development Program Teams (ODP): Any player belonging to a CJSA affiliated club over the
age of 12 can tryout for an OPD team. Tryouts are once per year and are
usually held in Newington. If you happen to make this team,
you will be competing with the best, and you will play against other state
OPD teams throughout the Northeastern United States. If you are good enough you will be
asked to tryout for the OPD regional team, and play against other OPD
regional teams across the country. The best players from the regional teams
tryout for the US Junior National or National soccer teams, depending on
your age. Most division 1 college and university programs pick players from
ODP teams.
Referee training: TYSC encourages children over the age
of 12 to become CJSA certified soccer referees. These children can then
earn some money on the weekends refereeing for our U9 and U12 in-town
games, and with a little experience, becoming a line referee or center
referee for travel team games in Terryville and other area town games.
TOPS soccer: This is a soccer program for children will special
needs and is sponsored by our Northwest District. This is a free program
and is held at the Shepardson School in Middlebury. This program has all
the specialized equipment and personnel to make playing soccer a great
experience.
Other activities: Summer soccer camp, Coaching clinics for our parent
coaches, Annual pizza party (free for all family members), Marching in the
Terryville Memorial Day parade, Terryville Fair “Score on the Goalie”” booth. Every year
our soccer programs are provided to many local children at no cost whenever
families express any financial burdens.
The TYSC also advocates the
education of its coaches and officials by reimbursing licensing seminars
and conferences attended.
